SLUPTE - first union in Sierra Leone to use an online joining system

SLUPTE, the union of postal and telecom employees in Sierra Leone, has developped the first online union joining system in Sierra Leone to be used by all employees that want to join the union.

Ever since the COVID 19 pandemic has started, SLUPTE was looking for solutions to implement digital tools that would help the union continue its activity and remain close to its members and their needs during these very difficult times. The development of a systems that would allow employees to join the union online, directly from their mobile phones and still comply with the specific legislation was quite a challange.

The system developed by SLUPTE withe the support of UNI Global Union, is accesible to any device with an internet connection and offers the possibility to any employee to join online the union by filling in the required details and then signing the union card with the finger on any touchscreen or uploading a signature if the case. In the end, the systems automaticly generates the union card which is sent to both the newlly joining employee and the union. It's fast, secure and safe.

Edward Kamara, SLUPTE's general secretary declared:" It was extremly important for us to be able to put in place a system that would allow all employees in our sectors to be able to join the union, secure and fast during these difficult times and we are very happy that we have proved that we can bring digitalization and technical innovations into our work"
